In the context of claiming the title of European Capital of Culture (ECC) for the year 2030, the Municipality of Kourion is starting a visionary project for the revitalization and enrichment of its cultural landscape and offer. At the heart of this ambitious undertaking is the establishment of specialized working groups, each of which will undertake a unique aspect of cultural development. These groups will lead initiatives ranging from grassroots citizen engagement to international cultural partnerships, laying the foundations for a comprehensive and inclusive cultural development strategy.

Formation of work groups

Four different working groups will be created, which will reflect the multifaceted approach required to address the diverse needs of the local community, as well as the cultural and creative sector of the Municipality of Kourion.

With the creation of the working groups, we aspire to enable all residents of the area to take an active role in shaping the cultural development of the newly established Municipality of Kourion, through community workshops, support of local initiatives and development of communication platforms.

  • This team, with a focus on preserving the rich cultural and natural heritage of the area of the Municipality of Kourion, will propose cultural surveys, restoration projects and cultural festivals. Cooperation with historians, local artisans, cultural organizations and tourism agencies will strengthen conservation efforts, promoting the historical and natural assets of the Kourion Municipality area.

  • Aiming to foster creativity and cultural participation, this group will propose art workshops, public art initiatives and support systems for local artists. Cultural institutions, schools, the business community and the general public can participate in this effort, with the aim of creating a vibrant cultural atmosphere that promotes creativity. The aim is also to highlight good practices and measures that can improve the access of people with disabilities to culture, analyzing the ongoing obstacles, the limited recognition of artists with disabilities and the perpetuation of stigma and various stereotypes.

  • This group will propose ways to expand the cultural horizons of the Municipality of Kourion, creating partnerships with cultural institutions, both locally and internationally. The proposed activities will include cultural exchange programs, cooperation and networking events, to create an international cultural network.

  • Dedicated to efforts to strengthen the infrastructure and support systems of professional cultural sectors, this group will focus on professional development, innovation in the arts and resource allocation. The involvement of local artists, business sectors, technology experts and cultural policy makers will foster an environment of excellence and innovation.

The strategic formation of these working groups is not only a step towards claiming the title of European Capital of Culture 2030, but also an important move in the direction of sustainable cultural development in the entire area of the Municipality of Kourion. By integrating the efforts of various stakeholders - from activists to international partners - we aim to create a dynamic cultural ecosystem that reflects the region's rich heritage and contemporary creativity.
