KANTOU
Kantou is 15 km from Limassol and is located at an altitude of 135 meters. According to excavations, the area was inhabited since the Late Neolithic period (4500-3800 BC).
Before the occupation of Cyprus by the Turks in 1571, Greek Cypriots lived in Kantou, as shown by the presence of several 15th century chapels. According to population censuses, before the Turkish invasion of 1974, the inhabitants of Kantou were Turkish Cypriots. In 1964, due to the inter-communal disturbances, Turkish Cypriots from other villages in Limassol province moved to Kantou, and many remained after the disturbances ended.
The inhabitants are engaged in the cultivation of citrus fruits, vines, vegetables, carobs and grains. In Kantou there are several abandoned lands which are now covered by natural vegetation.
