KOLOSSI
Kolossi is 11 km from Limassol while part of its administrative area is included in the territory of the British Akrotiri Base. In 1192, Richard the Lionheart sold Cyprus to Guy de Lusignan, who established the feudal system and granted the land to knights and nobles. The fief of Kolossi, which included about 60 villages, was given to the French nobleman Garinus de Colosse, from whom it took its name.
In Kolossi is the famous Kolossi Castle, a medieval fortress with a height of 21 meters, three floors and walls one and a half meters thick. It was built in 910 AD. with great strategic importance, as it controlled the area of Kolossi where sugar was produced and exported the traditional wine of Cyprus "Vin de Commanderie", wine of the Commandery.
Until 2014, Kolossi was the only area with two community councils, Kolossi Parish of Apostolos Loukas Community Council and Kolossi Parish of Apostolos Andreas Parish of Kolossi Community Council, which were merged due to growth and distance issues.
